Iv been lurking here for about a month and havnt found anything that is helping. The only thing im still busy with is the -image extention that is taking ages.

K. here goes, my problem is that i an unable to play GW at all, this problem has become worse and initially it was frustrating but the game worked.

Specifics:

I am able to log on to the game and choose a character, then the loading screen comes up for whatever area im in(the loading bar stays a 0%) and it loads what seems to be a random amout of data before it says connecting(the bar is still at 0% at this stage but my internet usage on task manager drops to 0% at this stage as well)

What I have already done:

-I have contacted (borderline harrasment) the gw support staff to attempt to solve this problem but they keep responding to me with templates and despite me sending them all kinds of things(such as screenshots of my line usage) and affirmations by my isp stating that my ping is normal for my country(im definately not the only person playing here on 56k) they keep telling me my ping is too high.

-I have formatted my machine and installed all my drivers correctly.

-I have bought a new modem(just in case).

-I have cheacked and double cheacked my connection settings.

-I have re-installed GW several times.

When the problem occured:

I have been struggeling with this since the start but initially i was able to log on after several attempts then just after NF modifications were added continuing to when they were removed and a while afterward everything worked perfectly. In the past few days I havnt been able to log in at all no matter what i do.

Is there some way to log into the game without logging my friendslist etc?(perhaps it will let me get in if i log into it one chunk at a time,like i said desperate).

I don't have a solution at hand, but some things that corssed my mind:

If you start Guildwars and let it sit at the login screen without actually logging in, does a little lightning bolt symbol appear in the upper right corner of the screen? Does a number appear next to it and does this number increase over time?

What country do you live in? What's your ISP? Maybe there's someone else here from that region who can give you a hint.

Do you have the possibility to connect to a different ISP? There are internet-by-call providers where you don't need to sign a contract; I don't know though if those are availible in your area.

Can only suggest have you made sure Firewall settings allow guildwars to connect properly?

At the log in screen my lightning bolt does apear and does increase over time.

My country is South Africa and my isp is webstorm, i can get hold of another isp for a short period but erm lets say its not free and id rather leave that as an absolute last resort. Iv also been in contact with them and although with some "gental" persuasion iv managed to get my pings down a little we all have the same phone company here so they have the same limits as everyone else.

I have opened port 6112 port 80 and the gw.exe in my firewall.

my image extention download box says it needs 27000 files to be fully updated is that normal?

Hmmkay, this sounds like some kind of routing issue to me. You are able to connect to Anet, login and also download data, but as soon as you want to enter the game, you can't connect to the server on which your home territory is located. Those servers are "optimised" for connection from a certain part of the world each, after all. Maybe something went wrong with that optimisation.
Where do you play, by the way, Europe or America? It may be worth a try switching to the other one. Wait till you get some other opinions before doing that, though, after all your number of territory switches is limited and I'm only guessing here.

The large ammount of files to update is normal, you've already seen that other thread by Addone Abaddon. Yeah, it's kinda silly to release updates like this for a game that is supposed to be perfectly playable at 56k. If you know someone with a broadband connection and have means to transfer large ammount of data (like burning it on DVD), you can get the gw.dat file from them.

i did try to change back and forth to no avail, on the american servers it was even worse, i couldnt even get to theplace i am now.

btw i dont know if this will help but iv also now found that im not able to create any new characters either
